How to Store Coffee

1) Air is the enemy of freshly roasted coffee.
Air degrades the flavor of freshly roasted coffee very quickly. That’s why you should roll down the top of your coffee bag; it helps keep excess air out of your coffee beans.

2) Short Term Storage
Refrigeration causes the natural fats/oils in freshly roasted coffee beans to emulsify, which degrades the flavour of the coffee. A cool, dark place away from heat, sun and air is all you need to store freshly roasted coffee for up to 5 weeks.

2) Longer Storage Time?
Coffee – like red wine, can benefit when you allow it to mature and develop its character. If you would like to store roasted coffee for longer than five weeks, keep the coffee in a cool dark place for the first few weeks. Freshly roasted coffee is still releasing CO2 through the “degas” valve for a while after roasting. After a few weeks, it’s okay to move the coffee into a refrigerator or coldroom for longer storage.
